What it actually costs
The subscription is the front door, not the bill.
Base Premium runs around $12.99 a month. Annual terms drop it a long way — independent reviews reading the vendor's own pricing page have logged rates as low as roughly $4 a month equivalent, paid upfront for twelve months.
Then there are tokens. Images, voice and video do not come out of your subscription. They come from a separate pool you buy in packs, commonly around $9.99 for 100 tokens. Reviewers disagree on the per-image cost, with estimates ranging from a few tokens to several dozen depending on what you generate and when they tested, so treat any single figure you read as approximate.
What reviewers do agree on is where you land. Multiple independent tests put the real monthly spend for an active user at $25 to $60. One Trustpilot reviewer reported $200 in a single month.
This is the number one complaint about the platform, and it is not really a pricing complaint. It is a predictability complaint. You cannot tell at signup what your month will cost, because the thing you most want to do is the thing that is metered.
Where Candy AI genuinely wins
We are not going to pretend otherwise: the visuals are excellent.
Image generation is the strongest in the category. Sharp, consistent, on-model across a conversation. If your main reason for using an AI companion is seeing them, Candy AI is the best answer available right now.
Live Action video is close to unique at this price. Animated clips of your character, launched late 2025 and substantially upgraded in early 2026. Competitors in this bracket mostly do not offer it at all.
The character library is deep, with a hundred-plus premade characters plus a builder covering looks, voice and personality.
It holds an adult scene without breaking character far better than the general assistants do. If you arrived from ChatGPT refusals, that alone will feel like a step up.
Where it falls down
Memory. Consistently, and for paying users too.
The complaint that appears in positive and negative reviews alike is that the conversation resets. You build a storyline over weeks, and then it drops back to generic small talk — the reviewer shorthand is a bot that suddenly asks your favourite colour. Reviews describe it as abrupt and immersion-breaking.
That matters more than it sounds. The entire product promise is that someone knows you. When the memory fails, what you are left with is a very good image generator attached to a chatbot.
Voice is fine, not leading. Several reviewers put rivals ahead on voice quality.
The free tier is a demo, not a trial. Limited daily messages, a couple of images a day, watermarks, downgraded model, no voice or video. Enough to judge the interface, not enough to judge the product.
Is Candy AI safe and legitimate?
Yes, with ordinary caveats.
It is a real company, launched in 2023, with a large paying user base. Reviewers report no malware and no pattern of fraudulent charges. Connections and stored data are encrypted, and the free tier does not demand identity documents or a card.
The "Candy AI got banned by Google" story is a myth. What actually happened is that companion apps were pulled from mobile app stores under adult-content policies, which is why Candy AI runs as a web app rather than a native install. The platform was never banned and is fully operational.
