Short answer: no. Midjourney NSFW images are not allowed, and that includes private ones.
Midjourney bans adult content outright. Its Terms of Service say it in five words: "No adult content or gore." There is no adult setting, no special plan and no hidden switch.
The rules also reach further than most people expect. They cover Stealth Mode, private servers, direct messages with the bot, and images you delete. Breaking them can get you a warning, a time-out or a ban.
We build Secret Desires, which makes adult images of fictional characters. So read the comparison near the end as an interested opinion. Everything before it comes from Midjourney's own Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
What the Midjourney rules ban
Nudity and sexual images, in plain words. The Community Guidelines tell you not to create, or try to create, adult content. Then they spell out what counts:
- Nudity
- Sexual organs, or a focus on them
- Sexualized images
- Fetishes
- People in showers or on toilets
The last item shows how wide the line is. A shower scene does not need to show anything to break the rule. Midjourney judges the situation, not just how much skin is on screen.
The goal is a family friendly service. The Terms of Service say Midjourney tries to keep the service family friendly. Every prompt is judged against that standard.
Three things people get wrong about Midjourney NSFW
Each of these comes straight from the written rules. Each one is easy to miss.
Stealth Mode does not put you outside the rules
Private is not the same as allowed. Stealth Mode keeps your images out of public view. But the guidelines say the rules apply to images made in Stealth Mode, in private servers and in direct messages with the Midjourney Bot. They also apply to images you delete or hide. A broken rule in private is still a broken rule.
A prompt that goes through is not a prompt that is allowed
The filter is not the rulebook. Midjourney blocks some text and image inputs on its own. But its guidelines say that an input not being blocked does not mean it is allowed. If a prompt slips past the filter and makes an adult image, you have still broken the rules.
The Editor comes with the strictest warning
Editing images is where Midjourney is toughest. The guidelines say not to use the Editor to make NSFW or sexualized images. They promise especially strict action against sexualized images of real people. And anyone who tries to break the rules with the Editor faces a suspension or a ban, without a refund.
What happens if you break the rules
The steps go from a warning to a ban. The guidelines list three outcomes: a warning from a community moderator, a time-out, or being blocked from the service. Any break of the rules may lead to a ban.
You can lose the community, the tool, or both. Midjourney says it is both a product and a community. It can take away your access to one without the other.
If Midjourney makes something adult by accident, delete it. The guidelines admit this happens now and then. They ask you to remove the image yourself, with the X reaction or Cancel Job in Discord. You can also report someone else's image for review.
The rules can change, but nothing points to an adult mode. Midjourney says its guidelines are reviewed over time and may be updated. Nothing in the current rules suggests adult images are coming.
Why Midjourney says no
It is built for every kind of picture, so it picks one safe standard. Midjourney is a general art tool with a shared community, moderators and a report button. A place like that needs one rule that works for everyone. The company chose family friendly.
That puts it next to most big AI tools. Google bans explicit content outright, as covered in why Gemini says no. Grok still writes adult text but now limits explicit images heavily, as covered in what Grok allows today.
It is a choice, not a limit of the model. Midjourney's own guidelines admit that prompts sometimes make adult images by accident. So the model can draw them. The rules and the filter are what stop it. Video tools show the same split between what a model can make and what a filter blocks, as explained in what uncensored means for video tools.
Midjourney next to a generator built for adult images
The real difference is what each tool is for. Midjourney is made for any picture, and adult pictures are not allowed. A generator built for adults works the other way. Adult images are the point, and the limits are short and clear.
Here is Midjourney next to Secret Desires, the adult image tool we build:
| Midjourney | Secret Desires | |
|---|---|---|
| Nudity and explicit poses | Banned | Allowed with adult fictional characters |
| Sex scenes between adults | Banned | Allowed with adult fictional characters |
| Pictures of real people | Strict action on sexualized images of real people | Not allowed. Fictional characters only |
| Private images | The rules still apply in Stealth Mode | Private to your account, and you can delete any of them |
| How you start | A blank prompt | Pick a character, then describe the scene |
| What it is good for | Any kind of art | Adult pictures of characters |
Where Midjourney is better. It is a strong general art tool. If you want a landscape, a poster or a logo idea, it can make that. Secret Desires cannot, because every image starts from a character.
Where Secret Desires is different. Every image starts from a character you pick, so the same face comes back each time instead of a new stranger. You set the pose and outfit from menus, or type the whole scene in everyday words. Characters come in realistic and anime styles, and there are men as well as women. If drawn anime art is your thing, AI hentai covers that style.
Good prompts follow the same rule anywhere. One exact detail works better than a long list of adjectives. The tips in NSFW AI prompts that actually work apply to pictures too.
Who we are wrong for. If you want a blank canvas for any kind of art, Secret Desires will feel narrow. If you want adult pictures of a character you like, Midjourney will refuse every time.
Midjourney NSFW FAQ
Does Midjourney allow NSFW images?
No. Its Terms of Service say no adult content. Its guidelines list nudity, sexual organs, sexualized images and fetishes as off limits.
Can you get banned from Midjourney for NSFW prompts?
Yes. Breaking the rules can lead to a warning, a time-out or a ban. Trying to make NSFW images with the Editor can mean a suspension or a ban without a refund.
Does Stealth Mode let you make NSFW images?
No. The guidelines say the rules apply in Stealth Mode, in private servers and in direct messages with the bot.
What if Midjourney makes an adult image by accident?
Delete it. The guidelines ask you to remove it yourself with the X reaction or Cancel Job in Discord.
Will Midjourney add an NSFW mode?
Nothing in its current rules suggests it. Midjourney says the guidelines are reviewed over time, but today the line is family friendly.
Do workaround prompts work?
Some slip past the filter for a while. They still break the rules, because an unblocked prompt is not an allowed one. We do not publish them.
If you came here for adult images
You wanted a tool that says yes, and Midjourney will not. No prompt changes that. It is the rule, and the rule is written down.
So use a tool where adult pictures are allowed. Secret Desires is an uncensored AI image generator for adult fictional characters. Pick a character, describe the scene, and keep the images private to your account. If you would rather she sends pictures while you chat, try AI girlfriend pictures.
